Texas Parent-Taught Driver Education Program Guide PTDE The Parent Taught Driver Education Program Guide is provided by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and is required to be obtained before starting any course work. The guide includes the documents needed to successfully complete the program and to obtain a learner's permit and, eventually, a provisional license. This includes general parent-taught program information, sample lesson plans, a list of required instructional topics, official logs and affidavit forms and a Texas Drivers Handbook, among other items. A parent or legal guardian must request the program guide from the TDLR. This guide and its fee are not included in your course purchase price. To request your guide, you have two options. First, you may request the parent-taught program guide online here:. You may have the guide emailed or mailed to yourself. The Parent Taught Driver Education Program Guide can take up to three weeks to arrive from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for those who choose to complete a paper copy or to pay using a check or money order.
